Biography:

Dr. Edward Sammons' interest in eye care began at the age of seven when he experienced ocular trauma. This incident would ultimately motivate him to graduate cum laude from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in biology. Dr. Sammons attended medical school at Nova Southeastern University where he received his doctor of optometry degree.

Dr. Sammons specializes in primary eye care with emphasis in dry eye, diabetic eye care, glaucoma, and contacts.

Having performed various diabetic eye exams, Dr. Sammons enjoys teaching his patients the importance of nutrition habits affecting vision. He takes an interest in nutrition counseling because it plays a role in many age-related diseases of the eye. “Through nutrition counseling,” he explains, “I can help my patients improve their eye health, while taking better care of themselves in the process.”

In addition to his work with diabetic patients, he finds it extremely rewarding doing specialty contact lens fittings due to his patients' improvement of vision. Dr. Sammons sees a wide range of cases from corneal dystrophy to dry eye management to routine care and wellness check-ups.

Dr. Sammons is a member of the American Optometric Association and Georgia Optometric Association. He previously served as president of the Georgia Optometric Association’s first district.

When he is not reading journals or attending lectures to further his education on the latest treatments, Dr. Sammons enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He and his family live in Savannah where they spend time on the coast, playing baseball, offshore fishing, and attending church at Isle of Hope Methodist.
