WSAV News 3 reporter Ben Senger spoke to SouthCoast Health allergist Dr. Wasil Khan about the recent increase in red meat allergies due to tick bites. After seeing some cases over the summer, Dr. Khan explained the Lone Star tick was responsible for this allergy, known as alpha-gal. This type of tick is found all over the Southeast region, which explains the increase of the allergy in the Coastal Empire.
Dr. Khan discussed the variety of symptoms related to the allergy, and advised those suffering from symptoms to seek a medical evaluation right away.
